if you're a fan of pet shop boys and you go down a ton of rabbitholes like i do there is a possibility that you might know this band! otherwise i have no idea how you know true sounds of liberty.
wash away is the first ever t.s.o.l song i listened to and one of the only. i actually found it through spotify at first (i think) but after looking up its name on youtube, i found out that it actually appeared on a movie from 1983: suburbia. this is actually the film that inspired pet shop boys' song suburbia believe it or not :^)
i find that in some ways i actually prefer this live version to the studio version (ver from suburbia below):
the main thing about this ver really that i like is the part from about 1:45 to 2:07. the way he performs this bit compared to the studio version is in my opinion a lot more interesting the "wash away" part from this segment especially
and just like, a tangent about suburbia (this whole thing is a tangent anyway) i didnt realise this was a corman movie at first! i think it was meant to be (i have a mission to watch every corman film). with this being a corman movie i thought i would be able to sense the ending from a mile away but somehow no i didnt. all of the other movies by roger corman that i have watched have turned out to be tragedies (see lsoh, a bucket of blood) so i dont know why i wasnt expecting the same.the ending scene was also a huge shock
lyrics (from genius thanks)
Sad memories the gathering rain brings
I loved her but I'll never see her face again
Clouds raise their heads in the morning
The way I once walked on by her
But now she's gone and I'll never raise my face again
(Raise my face again)
White horses dragged my lover from me
The clouds rushed in and drowned my sorrow with the rain
My friends try to lift me
They understand how I'm feeling
But the truth holds me down
She came and went with the rain
White horses dragged my lover from me
The clouds rushed in and drowned my sorrow...
With the rain
Now always the storms come...
Raindrops run down my windows
All that's left is her picture
But someday it to will
Wash away...
Wash away...
I watched her walk away
With the rain
